Set in the heart of the Awatere Valley, this project saw Silver Creek Construction transform an older home with character into a comfortable, modern residence for a local farmer.
Kellyanne, a farmer in the Awatere Valley, wanted to enhance an older home — originally a sheriff’s quarters — that was better positioned than her current residence. The project started with a plan to build a large deck but expanded to include a home extension designed by Kellyanne’s sister.
The extension featured two new bathrooms, a master bedroom, and significant concrete work, including the removal of a central fireplace and a water tank structure. The existing concrete structures presented their share of challenges, the kind of complications that come with working on an older rural building, but careful planning and problem-solving on site kept the project moving. Throughout the build, Kellyanne worked alongside the team, taking on some of the plastering and painting herself to keep costs down.
The result is a larger, more functional home that makes the most of its valley setting, with quality additions built to last. This project reflects the kind of rural work Silver Creek Construction takes on across the Awatere Valley and wider Marlborough — extensions, renovations and new builds suited to country properties and the people who live on them.
